About Organisation
X:talk is a migrant sex worker led organisation that organises free language classes for workers in the London sex industry. Being able to speak some English is an important step in asserting our needs, desires and rights. It means we can talk with clients, health services and our bosses. Through speaking a common language we are better able to come together, organise and empower each other. Through the development of our language skills and confidence building, our aim is to promote the improvement of working conditions in sex work, as well as the right to change work and not to be forced to stay with the same employer. As workers in the sex industry we are often denied a voice, we are considered only passive victims, we are taught to be ashamed of our work, we are made invisible by discriminatory laws that illegalise our work and us, and we are spoken for and about but rarely are we allowed to speak for ourselves. As migrants even more so. x:talk is about getting our voices heard - with our clients, with our bosses and with each other.

One London borough wants to End Demand: Clients of sex workers beware

One of us took these photos of a parked van while having a drink in Brixton, in the London borough of Lambeth (where Waterloo Station is). Buy Sex – Pay the Price is the message, with a man’s silhouette as a sort of parody of the cliché prostitute silhouette. Notice that this naughty client is smoking. According to [...]

Tower Hamlets strippers speak up and organise!

On 18 April 2012, a public talk was organised in Tower Hamlets by the GMB London Entertainment branch and the Equity Thames Variety branch. The meeting was supported by SERTUC LGBT network and chaired by Linda Keitz from GLATUC and member of the SERTUC women rights committee. John McDonnell Labour MP was invited to speak and expressed [...]
