Turkey: Sex Workers Rights Conference by Red Umbrella Sexual Health and Human Rights Organisation in Turkey

This event is organized by Red Umbrella Sexual Health and Human Rights Association to raise awareness on the needs of sex workers and the problems faced by them. This event is only one of the various activities that Red Umbrella conducts every year in March in order to highlight March 3rd International Sex Workers' Rights Day.

Also this year, within the scope of activities regarding March 3rd International Sex Workers' Rights Day, Red Umbrella Sexual Health and Human Rights Association will be a first by holding this year Red Umbrella Awards Night for the first time.

Red Umbrella Awards will be provided to the nominee persons and institutions, regardless of their gender or work, who increases the visibility of sex workers; who responds to their needs at same time encouraging courage and perseverance of sex workers; who provides support for sex workers in their access to justice; who strengthen the capacity of sex workers in various subjects by providing their solidarity in various ways.

This year, in the 1st Red Umbrella Awards Night, the awards will be provided in four categories. The winners will be announced at the awards night will be held on March 18.

a) Courage Award:

Courage Award is provided to the people who are sex workers and struggle courageously against the human rights violations. This award will be provided to the sex workers, who are not well known, although they fight courageously against the human rights violations faced regardless of they are activists or not.

b) Solidarity Award:

Solidarity Award is provided to people or institutions who are not sex workers but provide their solidarity with sex workers in a meaningful way, who contribute to studies and activities regarding the rights of sex workers while increasing the visibility of the daily lives, problems and needs of sex workers.

c) Special Award for Solidarity:

Special Award for Solidarity is provided to institutions or people who are not sex workers, but conducting works having great importance for Red Umbrella Sexual Health and Human Rights Association and / or sex worker groups, by contributing to the sex workers' organization or their advocacy work, who personally had studies in order for the development and institutionalization of the sex workers movement.

d) Honor Award:

Honor Award is provided to sex workers who have been working for many years and who have experienced various forms of victimization; who is in solidarity with the sex workers community and who are welcomed and loved with respect. Honor Award aims to honor sex workers who have challenging lives.

The night will continue with the screening of videos shot by Red Umbrella Sexual Health and Human Rights Association and a cocktail party.
