About:
Genera's main focus is settled in approaching sexual work from a gender perspective. It is from this point that we develop our strategic lines in different fields: direct intervention, advice, community action and advocacy. We aim to trigger a critical thinking and alternative discourses about sex work. Our goal is to strengthen social pressure groups, in order to advance in the recognition of sexual worker's rights, trough an open and transparent debate including the voices of sexual workers. Our principles are: - Proximity: we are constantly in contact with the reality of sexual work. We regularly visit clubs and apartments in which prostitution is exercised. - Gender and human rights: we work for the recognition and respect of human rights from a gender perspective. - Solidarity and empowerment: we promote the creation of solidarity relationships and consider knowledge to be a tool for social change and empowerment. - Working in social and community network: we include sensibilization, training and political action among our main objectives.
Sex Worker Rights Connections:
Since our foundation in 2003 we have been taking part in different platforms and organizations claiming for sex worker rights. During this year, we have collaborated in the creation of the Asamblea de Activistas pro-derechos, together with other organizations and sex workers who claim for sex worker rights such as Aprosex, Putas Indiganadas or El Lloc de la Dona. For some months, we have been meeting in order to develop common strategies aimed to oppose public policies which criminalize prostitution as well as rebutting abolitionist discourses and creating pressure groups towards political parties which take part in the elections. As an organization, we have been working on setting a pro-rights political agenda in two left-wing parties for the next local elections. We find this one to be an important point as public policy in Barcelona triggers a huge criminalization of women exercising prostitution. Moreover, we are an organization within Plataforma Estatal por los derechos de las personas trabajadoras sexuales, where we work together with organizations like Colectivo Hetaira and CATS.
